Is the ferry (still) dead?
Feb 27th, 2010 at 12:26am

Is the ferry to westport/Ocean Shores dead or will it start up again some time in the future?  i'm assuming no, since the last article I found on the subject was Feb 2009 (titled: the ferry is (still) dead).  I see that most ocean shores activities sites (including how I got to this site) even posts old info on the ferry (including the numbers to call which are disconnected).  Is the site going to be updated with the status?  I love both ocean shores and westport but the beauty of coming here was lodging and dining (more bang for my buck) in westport and shopping (more shops) in ocean shores.  If i can't do both, I probably won't be back....sad for me and the local economy...cause I spend it like i'm dying tomorrow! :)  Let me know the current status of the ferry situation...please.

Hi! Welcome to the forum. What I found (and I'm sure you did, too) is this http://www.northcoastnews.com/2009/02/24/the-ferry-is-still-dead/ fresh posting from North Coast News. I also have asked a foaf (Friend-of-a-friend) for anything they know.

Yep...it's dead. When Damon Point got over-washed about four years ago, all that sand settled in the bay behind Protection Island where the entrance to the marina is. Dredging is needed, but there's nobody stepping up. Quinault Indian Nation owns most of that area, and it seems as if they aren't interested in development.

Nope... it's a dead issue. Marina too shallow and tourists too few. You know this isn't a car ferry, right?

Yep, it's only in hour to go around. Watch for elk near the Ocean Spray facility (across the road) by Johns River, and just before you turn off for Westport. I know a hair-dresser along the route, if'n ya need a trim.
